​Welcome! We are members of Passive House Alliance US, organized to support the growing community of passive building professionals in the United States. Our chapter, Passive House Alliance – Minneapolis/Saint Paul (PHA-MSP), was founded in 2008 as the first Passive House organization in Minnesota.  We welcome members from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and North & South Dakota.
We strive to:
  • Make passive building the obvious, accepted best practice and mainstream market force in the building industry
  • Support Passive House Alliance US (PHAUS) members through networking, sharing technical information and research, professional training and public outreach opportunities
  • Promote a healthier and more sustainable building approach
​PHIUS Certified Passive House Consultant’s (CPHC), PHIUS Certified Builders, PHIUS+ Rater, PHIUS+ Verifier, and PHIUS+ Passive House certification, are recognized quality brands with standards that differentiate our members and their building products in the construction and real estate market.  PHIUS+ certification not only saves energy and lowers or eliminates energy bills for building owners, but increases real estate return on investment.

​Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC®): First launched in 2008, PHIUS established the Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC®) credential to distinguish accomplished passive house professionals in the marketplace. CPHC training was the first – and is still the only – passive building training program tailored to North America’s unique climate variations, market conditions, and building components. PHIUS-trained CPHCs are leading adoption of passive house by designing and building quality-assured passive projects -- single family, multifamily and commercial -- across North America's varied climate zones.

​PHIUS Certified Builders are construction professionals trained to meet the challenges of building to the PHIUS+ passive building standard. Certified Builders undergo rigorous four-day hands-on training and pass a certification exam to learn how to address challenges like risk management and component sourcing unique to passive building and specific to North America’s unique climate variations, market conditions, and building components.

​PHIUS+ Raters are RESNET raters in good standing who have successfully completed PHIUS passive house rater training. Only PHIUS+ Raters have the training to perform PHIUS+ certification, assign an accurate HERS Index, and to perform RESNET-approved quality assurance and quality control on passive house projects.

​PHIUS+ Verifiers perform third-party Quality Assurance and onsite verification for multifamily and commercial passive building projects pursuing PHIUS+ Certification. Verifiers are well versed in the specific requirements of the PHIUS+ Multifamily Certification Standard v2.0 for performance and on-site verification of multifamily buildings pursuing certification under the PHIUS+ program.

​PHAUS offers individual and corporate memberships that include discounts on the annual conference, substantial discounts on PHIUS Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC®) Training, Certified Builder Training, PHIUS+ Rater training, workshops, continuing education training, webinars and notification of WUFI-Passive energy modeling software discounts. The PHAUS members website contains an upcoming event calendar, discussion forum, job board and archive access to previously presented conference programs, training, webinars, and industry partner educational content.
PHAUS provides:
  • Promotion of a healthier and more sustainable building approach that addresses the industry’s current responsibility for consuming the largest percentage of US energy production and contributing 47% of the harmful greenhouse gas emissions to the environment
  • A National Forum for building professionals to share their experiences and technical knowledge
  • A Chapter Structure where building professionals can focus on passive building challenges unique to their climate, regulatory, and other unique requirements
  • A Main Conduit for the various building industry factions to reach and synchronize with the budding Passive House community
  • A Network for disseminating the latest passive building science news to members, as well as sharing actual project performance lessons with the research entity PHIUS (Passive House Institute US) for the continued development of the standard in the North America
  • A Unified Voice to shape national energy efficiency policy and code issues, as well as a city chapter structure that can advance local policy issues
  • Training Programs to aid professionals in the design and construction of superior high-performance buildings
  • Dialogue with policy makers at all levels to create laws and codes that provide financial incentives for buildings that meet the Passive House Building Energy Standard
  • Stimulus for Green Jobs, created right here in the US by working with manufacturers, building professionals, consumers and leading green organizations to nationally reduce energy consumption and improve indoor comfort and health
  • Incentive and product development assistance to the building material manufacturing industry to make higher performing products to meet the demands of the Passive House Standard
